SummitET is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Staff Accountant to support the accounting and financial operations of SummitET and its subsidiaries.
This is a remote, hands-on accounting role supporting a growing organization with government contracting, professional services, technology, and commercial operations. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for day-to-day accounting activities, reconciliations, financial reporting support, and maintaining accurate financial records across multiple entities.
SummitET uses PROCAS Accounting as its primary accounting system. Prior PROCAS experience is preferred, and the successful candidate must be comfortable and capable of working effectively in PROCAS. Candidates with strong QuickBooks experience and relevant government contracting accounting experience will also be considered.
The Staff Accountant will report directly to SummitET's Fractional CFO and CEO and will work closely with company leadership on financial reporting, accounting operations, and continuous improvement of the company's financial processes.
What You'll Do
- Manage day-to-day accounting activities using PROCAS Accounting
- Maintain accurate general ledger records for SummitET and its subsidiaries
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoicing, vendor payments, customer billing, and cash application
- Perform bank, credit card, balance sheet, and other account reconciliations
- Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close
- Support preparation of financial statements and management reporting
- Assist with cash reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Support intercompany accounting and reconciliations across multiple entities
- Assist with project and contract accounting, including labor, expenses, and cost tracking
- Support government contract billing and accounting requirements
- Maintain organized and audit-ready financial documentation
- Assist with information requests from external accountants, auditors, lenders, investors, and other authorized stakeholders
- Work with the Fractional CFO and CEO to improve accounting processes, reporting, documentation, and internal controls as SummitET continues to grow
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
- 2+ years of accounting experience
- Experience with PROCAS Accounting and/or QuickBooks
- PROCAS experience strongly preferred
- Candidates without PROCAS experience should have strong accounting-software experience and demonstrate the ability to quickly become proficient in PROCAS
- Solid understanding of general ledger accounting, AP/AR, account reconciliation, and month-end close
- Working knowledge of GAAP
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a remote environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience with PROCAS Accounting
- Experience working for a federal government contractor
- Familiarity with government contract accounting, including direct and indirect costs, labor and timekeeping, project accounting, and contract billing
- Familiarity with DCAA-oriented accounting practices and internal controls
- Experience handling accounting for multiple companies, subsidiaries, or legal entities
- QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Desktop experience
- Experience supporting audits, budgeting, forecasting, or financial statement preparation
- CPA or CPA-track experience is a plus but not required
What Success Looks Like
We're looking for someone who takes ownership of the details and can be counted on to keep the numbers accurate, organized, and current.
The successful candidate will be comfortable moving between routine transactional accounting, reconciliations, month-end activities, contract accounting, and requests from senior leadership. Just as importantly, this person should be willing to identify opportunities to make our accounting processes more efficient, scalable, and reliable as SummitET grows.
Why SummitET?
This is an opportunity to join a growing organization and gain exposure to multiple aspects of corporate finance and accounting, including government contracting, professional services, technology, and subsidiary-level operations.
You'll work directly with SummitET's Fractional CFO and CEO, giving you meaningful visibility into the company's financial operations and an opportunity to take on increasing responsibility as the organization grows.
This is a fully remote position.
