Frequently Asked Questions

What types of services to do you offer?

Summit Exercises and Training (SET) offers a wide variety of preparedness exercises and training solutions, both to government and private sector clients alike, ranging from homeland and national security to business continuity and accreditation.  Furthermore, our training solutions assist organizations in the development of plans and procedures in conjunction with their needs and goals.

What does a typical customer engagement entail?

SET takes a tailored approach with each and every customer engagement, not a one-size-fits-all mentality.  We collaboratively work with the client to understand their needs and goals and then craft a solution based upon our assessment.  Whether it is exercises or training, the custom approach is what separates Summit Exercises and Training from other service providers.

How do you perform your services?

Based upon the needs of the organization, as well as the scope of the project, in person meetings and electronic/virtual communication will take place between the customer and SET.  At the same time, planning is underway with collaborative discussions and information sharing to assure project goals/requirements are achieved.  Finally, delivery and facilitation of the exercise and/or training is accomplished with after-action review to end the engagement.

How long does it take to do what you do?

Duration of the project is based upon the needs assessment as well as goals of the organization.  In order to truly determine readiness and/or tailor training, certain steps must be taken to ensure we maximize the impact of product delivery.  Accordingly, while there is certainly some time involved, Summit has experience in meeting tight deadlines to the benefit of our clients.

What is the level of expertise of your firm?

Summit Exercises & Training’s professionals, associates, and partners have a wide and diverse range of expertise and certifications that encompass almost every government and public safety discipline concerning preparedness training and exercises.  We understand the needs of our clients, as we have “been there and done that.”  This separates us from others in that our professionals, associates, and partners have worked in and been a part of government, military, emergency management, healthcare, academia, and private industry, giving us an edge in understanding the unique preparedness training needs of our clients.

What is the cost of your services?

Costs are based upon the type of project deliverables, as well as other factors.  Our staff is happy to discuss this based upon client need.

Why are exercises important?

This issue is addressed in the following post, written by SET’s Chairman, John Duda:

What certifications do you have?

SET professionals, associates, and partners are all certified in the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) methodology – the gold standard for exercise conduct and performance.  Additionally, we carry multiple certifications in a variety of fields, running the emergency preparedness gambit.  Additionally, SET’s staff are well versed in the National Incident Management System/Incident Command System (NIMS/ICS), security, public safety, emergency management, business continuity, and military operations, to name several.

Why SET? What makes your company different? What sets you apart?

Summit Exercises and Training is unique in that we tailor our professional services to meet the client’s needs and goals, without sacrificing quality and efficacy.  We don’t provide generic or “canned” exercises and training products.  Furthermore, we all have worked in many of the very same areas we service, giving us a unique insight into the issues as well as requirements our clients grapple with daily.  Yet, we continue to remain current on what is occurring in these sectors, while undergoing continuing education to ensure the very same.  Most importantly, we have years of experience in the preparedness field; however, we continue to learn something new with every engagement and endeavor and apply those lessons going forward.

Do you perform other services?

SET can assist your organization with other needs, including:  gap analysis, needs assessment, planning and policy development, and many more.  Please contact our staff to receive additional information.

Do you only work in the United States or do you also work internationally?

We have worked both domestically as well as abroad and are very accustomed to the unique needs and issues involving foreign clients. We have global expertise and have successfully, and with high customer satisfaction, performed our services in many countries.
